Business Context

Là Lá Corner is a startup I founded in the handmade accessory and gift industry. It was launched amidst the booming “Healing” and “Personalized Gifts” trends in Vietnam. Notably, it taps into the rising spirit of national pride among young people, who are increasingly embracing and modernizing traditional products. Furthermore, the project aims to deepen the youth’s understanding of my hometown, Làng Chuông – a historic craft village dedicated to making Vietnamese conical hats (nón lá) for nationwide distribution and export.

Problem Statement

The core challenge was how to rebrand a traditional handicraft-the Vietnamese nón lá-and break the stereotype that it is only for mothers or grandmothers working in markets. We aimed to transform it into a sophisticated handmade product that pairs perfectly with the Áo dài, accompanies young people on travels or at concerts, and represents a new lifestyle.

Customer Insight

Gen Z and Gen Alpha customers are not just buying an accessory; they are buying a “vibe” and a message that reflects their identity. They are willing to pay a premium for products that come with a meaningful story and experiential packaging.

Business Model: D2C (Direct-to-Consumer) via social media platforms, specifically Threads and Instagram.

Strategy & Key Decisions

Community Building: Focused heavily on Threads to build a community by sharing daily reflections and personal perspectives instead of traditional advertising.

Visual Identity: Invested deeply in a “pure and rustic” visual style to create a unique and recognizable brand identity.

Results

  • – Social Media: Attained 581 organic followers on Threads; viral content reached up to 100K views and 7-10K interactions, positioning the brand as a pioneer in bringing the new nón lá trend to the youth.
  • – Customer Loyalty: Achieved a 97% rate of customers returning with feedback or making repeat purchases due to the strong emotional connection.
  • – Global Reach: Secured 10+ large wholesale orders from Vietnamese communities abroad and cultural promoters in countries such as China, South Korea, and Japan.

Reflection & Learning

At Là Lá Corner, I learned how to maintain consistent quality even with 100% handmade products. By establishing clear standards and meticulously inspecting each item, I minimized defects during high-demand periods. The biggest lesson was the importance of operational precision and the art of collaborating delicately with traditional artisans to uphold the brand’s reputation.
